关于圣诞歌曲：近两个世纪以来，圣诞节的双重意义越来越明显，一个是作为传统的基督宗教节日，一个是作为现代社会的公共假日，对于一般公众来说，后者的普遍意义肯定更为重要，它昭示着欢乐的假日时光和新的一年的来临，对于孩子们来说教堂的拘束的礼拜和圣诞party那一个吸引力更大？同样圣诞音乐的功能与题材也更加多元化，用非宗教题材庆祝圣诞节早已经司空见惯，但实际上我们并不能肯定地道出现代的圣诞音乐的定义，权威的AMG网站上的确把圣诞音乐作为一个音乐类型划分了出来，不过只是笼统模糊地说“一切庆祝圣诞的音乐都可以称为圣诞音乐，”这样的划分方法至少在当代的流行音乐里是很少见的，我们平常提到的无论是喜哈音乐还是重金属或者是工业噪音基本上都以旋律和配器来区分，而用题材来划分一个音乐类型似乎只有圣诞音乐独享其荣，而把圣诞音乐作为一个独立的音乐类型划分出来至少反映出两个事实：圣诞作品在人们心目中的受欢迎程度与圣诞唱片的数量之多。但是近几十年来并没有诞生出多少诸如《Jingle Bells》《White Christmas》这样的广为传唱的圣诞音乐作品，人们似乎都把更多的精力用于用更多的方式重新演绎古老的圣诞作品，出现了诸如爵士版的、电声版的、电颤琴演奏的、铜管乐队演奏的等等经典圣诞作品的翻版。而众多大牌的歌手也相当乐于发行圣诞音乐唱片，甚至会每年发行一张圣诞唱片，比如The Beatles在他们的鼎盛时期从63年开始曾经连续几年都发行了单曲圣诞唱片，著名的先锋音乐人Chip Davis甚至领导了一个专门以圣诞音乐闻名天天下的Mannheim Steamroller(曼海姆压路机)乐团，每年西方世界产生的圣诞唱片之多令人咋舌，当然也就难免泥沙俱下，这样的唱片也许带了更多的商业目的，大概我们可以比拟一下有中国特色的所谓的新年档期的“贺岁片”。

关于本合辑：这次精选了70余位艺人的68首圣诞歌曲，多为现代流行歌手的重新演绎，尽量做到一个歌手只选择一首，且曲目不重复，不过只有一个例外就是Mariah Carey的选了两首，都出自她的经典圣诞专辑《Merry Christmas》。
