　　1985年便成军的Goo Goo Dolls以原始的团名The Sex Maggots加上原始鼓手George Tutuska在各个俱乐部中以专门翻唱别人作品的摇滚团四处走唱。很快的他们于97年被一家专门出版重金属摇滚的厂牌Metal Blade签入旗下发行首张同名专辑，陆续的在87-90年间发行了三张专辑，直到93年的专辑「Superstar Car Wash 」的发行，终于以一支进驻现代摇滚榜单曲"We Are The Normal"打开知名度，也获得乐界一致好评，日益成熟的作品，更加流畅的旋律让95年的第五张专辑不但销售一举大破两百万张，单曲"Name"更是挺进流行单曲榜Top 5，此时原鼓手George Tutuska求去换上新任鼓手Mike Malinin接着他们整装再出发，继续绽放灿烂火花，发行了他们于乐坛中立下的新里程碑专辑「Dizzy Up The Girl」辑中一曲为电影『Ｘ情人』所谱写的作品Iris不但稳坐点播榜18周冠军，更入围41届葛莱美最佳「年度唱片」、「年度歌曲」及「最佳流行演唱团体」三项大奖提名，整个90年可说是Goo Goo Dolls开花结果丰收的年代。

　　1985年主唱兼吉他手John Rzeznik与玩重金属乐的表哥Robby Takac找来前鼓手George Tutuska，于美国纽约州水牛城组成了三人摇滚团体Goo Goo Dolls。乐队在发行前五张专辑的过程中，虽然赢得了一些好评和人气，但是乐队并未树立自己的音乐个性，因此也未能从众多的另类摇滚乐队中脱颖而出，大红大紫。
　　但是老天似乎特别偏爱他们，幸逢电影《City Of Angels》邀请他们为其原声带写作歌曲，John Rzeznik所谱写演唱的《Iris》（希腊文，彩虹）一曲，不仅为他们赢得1999年第41届葛莱美音乐奖"年度唱片""最佳流行演唱团体""年度歌曲"等三项大奖提名，将Goo Goo Dolls的乐坛声望与作品销售数字提携至顶端外，《Iris》一曲的制作人Rob Cavallo更以此获得"年度最佳制作"大奖。Goo Goo Dolls这才开始在乐坛树立了自己的地位，也找到了适合自己的POP ROCK〔流行摇滚〕风格。

　　Iris堪称流行摇滚音乐作品中十年一遇的好音乐，音乐起始清脆急促的吉他SOLO，John Rzeznik饱含沧桑的低沉嗓音对世事对爱情满腹的疑问，而曲至中段突然的高昂爆发似乎疑问已经转为了真挚的誓言，“即便万物毁灭，我也只要你知道我是谁！”旋律的优美和主唱声线的粗犷形成了鲜明对比，而正因如此，此首音乐脱离了甜腻情歌的范畴，成了百听不厌的超级经典。这首歌的广泛受欢迎度，更加应了我的那个观点，玩过多年重金属，重摇滚的老将一旦演绎起配乐纯净旋律完美的柔情作品来，那才是欧美音乐中的极品，堪称天籁之音！
